  1. Smelly lint?
As far as my experience with jute goes, there is no jute without the smell.

    1. Yes, lots of smelly lint. I haven't used jute in 20 years, and this jute is that old. I guess I just didn't remember the smell. Yes, it still smells.

  3. I had a similar incident when someone sent me a lot of silk thread that was cut off of a loom. I put some of it in water and the smell just about knocked me for a loop. It also changed form and looked like a big bunch of spider webs. After I hung it out to dry, it finally lost the smell after about a week. So now, I don't know what to do with the stuff. I really wanted to dye it, but I can't take that smell again.

    1. I have the pleasure to tell everyone that, today, the jute is dry and smells better. Inoffensive enough that I can work with it anyway. Yesterday I was sure it was all for naught.

  5. I first thought the pile was an unravelled knitting project, but it looked bigger than that.
What are you going to do with the jute?
I just found your blog through your link on Quiltart.
I go to a mission Episcopal church, too.

    1. Oh, Christine, I think you have identified the one thing that would be worse! If I had knit, or in my case, crocheted, because I never learned to cast on, and then undone it all, well, I would be bereft. With this squirrelly jute, all I have is a mantra I say as I work with each crinkled yard. No, I am not going to share the entire mantra, but it begins, Stupid, stupid, stupid jute...

    1. I like it! I also have the urge to soak one of the piles in starch and call it...maybe I should ask for titles? Jujubee droppings, indeed!
